Had a fun little @polaroid x @lacoste photo shoot with @hiwathahart_ in my backyard! Polaroids were once trophies of queer survival — Private moments made public only on our terms. No middleman. No risk of exposure. Just the photographer, the subject, and the trust between them. Like trading cards, collecting DNA from being passed around, and then hit in no way until next time. Opening at Durden and Ray on March 22, 2025, this exhibition confronts state-controlled narratives, censorship, and the suppression of creative autonomy. Drawing from the Trump administration’s intervention in the Kennedy Center and the NEA and evoking the legacy of the Nazi Party’s 1937 Degenerate Art exhibition—used to vilify and silence artists—this show reclaims the term as a symbol of resistance. Featuring a diverse group of contemporary artists, Degenerate Art in the Age of DOGE challenges power structures, disrupts social taboos, and amplifies voices that refuse to conform. Polly Borland, Joe Davidson, Tom Dunn, and Randi Matushevitz manipulate familiar gestures and shapes, distorting the human form in ways that simultaneously seduce and unsettle. Through photography, Keith Boadwee, Robert Andy Coombs, and Dakota Noot expose the private as public, questioning the norms that dictate how bodies should be seen and used. Likewise, Trulee Hall’s playful yet provocative videos and squeaky mechanisms, with their surreal imagery, blur the line between desire and taboo. Zak Smith’s ink paintings pull us into intimate, behind-the-scenes moments from porn sets and bedrooms, while Dylan Ricard’s vision of a post-Anthropocene world plays out in a close-up video of his mouth and skin, displayed on a Shibari-bound screen. Steven Wolkoff bridges past and present, drawing on historical references like Holocaust book burnings and Andres Serrano’s Piss Christ to confront the ongoing threats to artistic and intellectual freedom.

Does anyone know how to become financially stable when you are a quadriplegic that relies on ample amounts of care? Being on Social Security severely limits the amount of income you can make… but how can I afford to live when I am literally PAYING SOMEONE ELSE’S SALARY with my own. Paying a caregiver $15 an hour, for 5 hours a day equals $75 a day, so roughly $2250 a month! How am I supposed to pay rent, or a mortgage, plus all of my utilities, groceries, gas money, or try and save money!? How am I ever going to get Financial independence from the government? I would at least have to make $75,000 and that’s in an area with a low cost-of-living. Like what the fuck am I supposed to do!

Hello my dear followers! I am writing to inform everyone that I will be in the NYC/ New Haven Area at the end of October and first week of November! I will be visiting Yale from November 4-6 for an artist talk along with studio visits and attending panel! I really want to spend some time in New York City either the weekend before Yale, or after. As you know staying in the city is extremely expensive, and I am a starving artist, so I am reaching out to all of you to see if there is somewhere my caregiver and I can stay or if anyone can help me with a hotel room for a few nights, that would be greatly appreciated! I am willing to do artist talks, studio visits, or commissions while I’m in NYC! So if you would like me to talk to your class, school, photograph something, or if you would just like to send me some coins to lower the cost it would be greatly appreciated! Posted @withregram • @benrubi_gallery Opening Thursday: Gorgeousness: A Summer Pride Show curated by @renaldiphotos “Queer communities in the US and around the world in the summer of 2024 find themselves squaring off against a series of ambient tensions singular in history. The long run of gradually expanding rights that began in the late 1970s and crested with the legalization of US gay marriage in 2015 has come to an end. More recent decisions by the Supreme Court, the legislatures of various states, community libraries and school boards have revealed an organized and persistent hostility to queer art, literature and identity. Although we have seen counter movements to queer progress before, the piecemeal dismantling of just recently acquired rights is a new form of slow torture. There was a whiff of sadism in the multiple ironies of last year’s Supreme Court decision, 303 Creative v. Elenis, enshrining the constitutional right of a self-described artist not to provide services to queer clients. As with Obergefell, the decision came down at the end of June. And we have never seen the constellation of illiberal agendas that are now making common cause, braiding together globally with malign efficiency to demonize queer communities. Right wing movements around the world may differ broadly in their specifics and texturally in their rhetoric, but they are identical in one particular: the weaponization of gender and sexuality. In this context, with the US presidential election looming as a near totalizing event of world historical anxiety, I have assembled a show of works, all by queer artists, in celebration of Gorgeousness. This show is as much a wellness check on a community at the leading edge of the cultural headwinds as an incitement to consider the gravity of what may lie ahead.
